Flying Matters

What can you do?

Travel has widened our horizons and made the global village a reality.  People travel by air to see friends and family, go on holiday or do business.

Many countries around the world have economies which rely on tourism or selling the food they produce to more developed countries.

FlyingMatters believes we need solutions to aviation’s contribution to climate change which balance economic sustainability with environmental sustainablity.

If you support this view there are a number of things you can do:

1. Write to your MP asking them to support policies which balance the value of aviation to the UK economy and to individuals with environmental responsibility.  If you don’t know who your MP is you can find out at http://www.upmystreet.com/commons/l/

2. Write to the newspaper you read telling them what the ability to fly means to you and why you support policies which are economically sustainable as well as environmentally sustainable.

3. Write to the Secretary of State for Transport , the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, or even the Prime Minister asking them to prioritise policies which will be successful at reducing overall carbon emissions throughout the economy rather than policies which will disproportionately impact on working families’ ability to fly on holiday.

4. Respond to the Department for Transport's consultation on the third runway at Heathrow.  You can do this online by following this link http://surveys.globalepanel.com/wix/p48537354.aspx

5. Respond to the Greater London Assembly's inquiry into this issue.  You can do this by emailing Danny.Myers@london.gov.uk or you can write to: Heathrow Expansion, PP 10, FREEPOST LON15799, City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London, SE1 2BR.
